CAROLINE DARK BLUE

Back in February, we were transfixed by recent Rough Trade signings caroline's captivating live rendition of their debut single 'Dark blue', which was expertly filmed in a dried up swimming pool (see here). Yesterday the studio version of the textural piece was set free via streaming platforms along with its equally soothing b-side 'BRJ'. Weaving together intricate layers of violin and electric guitar, subtle bass cradles the finer-stringed instruments as watery cymbal splashes wash over the mix. Stemming from a repetitive sequence of guitar strums, nuances of slowcore, post-rock, folk, country and even krautrock are awakened. The vocals are distant and roomy, sitting in the background so as not to distract from the instrumentation as they harmonise the refrain: "I want it all". Listen here now. -Holly Mullineaux
